Parish Council Report July 2009

Summer has arrived and plants have started to grow. So has the grass!.The Parish Council is aware that some grass may look a bit untidy but Jason has been busy on other jobs whilst it has been so wet and cold. He has now started grass cutting around the parish and has started in Veil Lane cemetery then moved on to the War Memorial Garden in Delabole, which at the time of writing looks splendid again.
With the cemetery in mind, the Parish Council asked that a dog waste bin be installed at the lower end of Veil Lane. This request was first put to Cornwall County Council, when it was still CCC, back in December last year. We were told we could have one, but not until the new financial year. I have contacted Cornwall Council every week since the beginning of April and am promised a bin will be fitted soon. In the meantime, please take your `doggie bags' home with you, please don't put them in the concrete bunker by the bottom gate. An ever increasing cost to the Parish is getting rid of trade waste. By the time you read this those of you who regularly visit the cemetery will have noticed new signs going up asking that you separate your cemetery rubbish into `rubbish' and `green waste'. If you do this for us we can save money by taking `green waste' to our allotment compost bins and the small amount of `rubbish' can go to trade waste. At a cost of £95.50 for a pack of 50 bags we need to use as few as possible. Keeping `rubbish' and dead flowers etc separate, ( no doggie bags in green waste please) we can keep costs down and help our allotment holders make good compost.
Now we are a unitary authority we are beginning to see a lot of changes coming about. All very confusing! Most of our individual problems and queries can be sorted out locally. No need to telephone or, worse still, visit County Hall. We all have access to our local One-Stop-Shop (awful title) which can be found in College Street, Camelford. Denise and Julia, who manage this facility are very helpful and will always find the answer to your query, if they can't tell you on the spot- which they usually can. Don't forget, these girls work because they need to, and if we don't make full use of this local service we will lose it, and Denise and Julia will be out of a job. We are lucky to have a One Stop Shop on our doorstep, so lets make full use of it. I am sure they would love to be 'rushed off their feet' so pay them a visit next time you have a query or problem, or ring them on 0300 1234 100 and ask for Camelford One Stop Shop.
From August 24th for one week Trehannick Road, St Teath, will be closed for re-surfacing work on the carriageway.
From September 2nd, for approximately 7 months, Cornwall Council will be carrying out verge and carriageway work on A39 between St Kew and Knightsmill.
A temporary speed limit will be in force.
On several occasions recently, black bags of rubbish have been deposited outside Delabole playing field. On the day of writing this we had to go up there with our `marigolds' and pick all the contents up as the bag had been ripped open (within one hour of first being seen). As it contained food, tea bags, banana skins, cake and choc bar wrappers, fizzy drink bottles, sweet and crisp wrappers and juice cartons it was smelly and must have attracted a thug in the guise of a magpie or crow who scattered it all along the High Street. Most of this rubbish could have been recycled, as we have now done. Please don't put it on the verge and leave it. If it is a trade waste problem, why not ring me and we will see what can be done.
We now have two new, bigger, Parish notice boards in place in Delabole and St Teath so we will try to keep everyone informed of events and ongoing projects around the Parish. If you see any problems or have any issues you want your Parish Council to know about, you can always ring me on 01840 211790 or e-mail stteathcIerk@tiscali,co.uk Sue Theobald.

Parish Chairperson Retires

Group photograph of parish councillors

The chair of St.Teath Parish Council, Mrs. Patricia Molloy, recently announced her retirement:
she has been a member of the Council for twenty-four years and has held the position of Chair since 1991.

Members of the council who have worked with  Mrs. Molloy during her last term of office, held an informal social evening on Thursday last at the Poldark Inn.
Ann Hopkins spoke for the Council and paid tribute to Tricia’s outstanding service both to the Council and to the community. She said that Tricia had conducted  the Council meetings with wisdom, diplomacy and gentleness. She had always been mindful that the parish of St Teath had two wards and she ensured that those ‘below the tree line’ in St Teath  had equal consideration to the larger community of  Delabole.

Mrs Molloy had previously led the Council in persuading the National Trust not to close the access to Tregardock Beach, negotiating  the acquisition of land for a village green in St. Teath and  recently planning the long awaited resurfacing of  the access to Delabole Cemetery , Vell Lane .

Ann made reference to Tricia’s apprenticeship: her father, Ron Thomas, had been Clerk to the Council and she had thus continued the family tradition of service to the community.

Mrs Molloy was presented with an ornamental tree, a selection of patio pots in full bloom and an indoor plant arrangement.
She thanked the councillors, saying how much she had enjoyed her terms of office, and she wished the new Council well.

District and Parish Councillor, John Lugg, said Tricia would be missed immensely.
He thanked her for her long service and wished her a happy retirement, with the opportunity to spend more time with her family.

Mrs Molloy continues to Chair the Board of Governors of Delabole School and is the Senior Steward of Delabole Methodist Church so it will not be tea and slippers just yet !
